ECHO Young Changemakers present: The Hills Youth Space

The Hills Youth Space is a free, inclusive youth-led program providing young people aged 12–18 with a safe and welcoming place to connect in our community.
Located at the rear of St Mark’s Church and ECHO offices in Emerald, the Hills Youth Space is open during school terms on Wednesday afternoons from 3pm-6pm.
Each week, young people can drop in and:
  • Catch up with friends
  • Meet new people
  • Grab a bite to eat
  • Take part in creative, recreational and skill-building activities
  • Relax in a comfortable, youth-friendly environment
  • Share ideas and help shape future sessions
  • Chat informally with trained youth workers
  • Explore opportunities for leadership and community involvement
There are no referrals, appointments or formal requirements. Young people can attend on their own terms — whether they stay for the full session or drop in briefly.
We know that young people benefit from having somewhere they can go outside of school and home that is safe, relaxed, supportive and youth-focused. The Hills Youth Space offers consistent weekly sessions where young people can spend time with peers, explore their interests and build positive relationships with trusted adults.
A Youth-Led Space
The Hills Youth Space is shaped by the young people who attend. A dedicated Youth Steering Committee works alongside staff to:
  • Guide programming and suggest activities
  • Contribute to decision-making about the space
  • Provide feedback and evaluation
  • Lead youth-initiated ideas and projects

Parent and Carer Information
We understand that parents and carers want to know their young people are safe and supported.
The Hills Youth Space:
  • Is supervised by trained youth workers and screened volunteers
  • Operates within clear safeguarding and child safety policies
  • Provides a respectful, inclusive and welcoming environment
  • Encourages positive peer relationships and constructive activities
The space is informal and youth-friendly, while maintaining clear expectations around behaviour and safety. Where appropriate, staff can provide information and support if a young person would like help accessing additional services. We welcome communication from parents and carers and are happy to answer any questions about the program.
