Apollo Bay is located 300kms from Melbourne, on the famous Great Ocean Road in Victoria. The catchment of Apollo Bay stretches though the densely forested Otway Rangers and National Park, inland from Lavers Hill and Forest and alongside the coast to Marengo and Kennett River. In the 2016 Christmas Day fires, the eastern catchment of Apollo Bay was threatened repeatedly due proximity to the fire and the bush conditions housing many residents and holiday makers. Many homes in Wye River and Separation Creek were destroyed, but thankfully no lives were lost.
The Ready2Go Program
Ready2Go helps vulnerable and isolated people who require extra support to remain in the community they love with the assistance of a trained volunteer who checks on them to ensure they are safe and hydrated on extreme weather days as well as early relocation if they desire.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer you must have a full driver's license, a registered car with comprehensive insurance and be willing to obtain a Police Check and Working with Children Check. Training is provided for all volunteers.
If you or someone you know may benefit from this program or would like to know more about program in your area, please contact your local Ready2Go Apollo Bay
